Hi William,
Please read the following paragraph and prepare to talk about it the next time we meet.
Halloween
Halloween is a big part of American culture. Children dress in scary costumes and stroll around their neighborhoods knocking on doors and asking for candy by saying "Trick or treat." College students usually dress in costumes too, but they aren't as innocent as the children. They often have drinking parties, and girls sometimes have competitions for the "sexiest" costume. Halloween has transformed a lot since its origin. In the 1800s, Halloween was simply a time for youth to express freedom, have fun, and play tricks on people in their neighborhoods during the night while people were sleeping. Sometimes children would climb on the roofs of houses and make statues out of trash. In modern times, young people still sometimes play tricks like this. A popular trick is to put toilet paper on trees or cars in the dark of night. A less innocent trick is to throw eggs at houses. This usually leaves a big mess for people to clean up in the morning. Halloween is a fun holiday for almost everyone, as long as things don't get too crazy!
Also, please answer these questions and get ready to talk about your answers:
1. What's the most important thing to take care of in your life? I like to take care of my health.
2. Do you think Halloween is a "real" holiday? Everyone still has to go to work, stores are still open, and children still have school. The government doesn't let people have time off. Do you think this should change?
